Buying Used Smartphones

Lubbock CPR makes it safe and easy to buy used cell phones. There is evidence of planned obsolescence everywhere, but that doesn’t mean you have to pay over $500 for a smartphone. In fact, Apple is still making new iPhone 6s models. So, what do you need to know about buying new and used phones?

Buying Refurbished/Pre-Owned Smartphones

When you are looking to buy a smartphone on a budget, the best way to go is refurbished or preowned. When the smart phones are returned to the store, for whatever reason, they are tested, factory reset, and certified (Digital Trends). Pre-owned options are typically the cheaper option, but both have their pros and cons.

Important Questions to Consider when Buying a New-to-You Smartphone

Just like any investment or large purchase, you should make sure you are prepared. There are a lot of things you might not be aware of. Here is a list of questions to ask when buying a new smartphone:

  1. Is the phone locked or unlocked? Meaning, is the phone already linked to a carrier. If you buy a locked Sprint phone, but you have AT&T, you won’t get very far. Make sure you know the answer to this question.
  2. Has there been a factory reset on the phone? Factory resets are important because you want a phone that has been wiped clean.
  3. Is there any damage? Checking for damage is important because you want to purchase a phone that will last a while. If you buy a smartphone that has existing damage, the lifespan of your new phone will be shorter than you originally thought.

These questions will help you make sure you buy a phone that will work for YOU. We aren’t always prepared for the random things that come our way, but these general guidelines are a great start!
